Finally Home!Just today, a deposit was made by Mercy's Shore to secure six (6) apartment units in which we can begin serving kids and their moms. It has been a long haul filled with many disappoints. Within the last 2 months, we have identified two (2) apartment owners who were willing to speak with us about housing our program and its participants. As I have mentioned, the principal issue has been the fact the moms have criminal records, in some cases felonies. Most owners are reticent to add folks with criminal records to their community mix. The cost of rental housing almost everywhere, but especially in Dallas, has been rising to the point it is virtually impossible for the families we serve to afford a place of their own. That puts them in "survival mode." When in that mode, people tend to accept "anyplace" which will put a roof over their head and the heads of their children. Without viable options, sometimes they find their way back to what they know: old boyfriends, abusive spouses, strained family relationships, couch "surfing," and harmful ways to deal with the pain of poverty. For many of the Mercy's Shore program participants, their stay with us will be the first time in their life they have ever had a place of their own. They will not have to share their place with someone who is physically, emotionally, sexually, and verbally abusive to them and their kids. They can begin to learn what it is to live like a "normal" person. Thank You For Your Help Mercy's Shore has gotten to this point as a result of the generous support of many people. We have not raised all the money needed to sustain Mercy's Shore for the long term, but we have raised enough to open the doors and sustain the ministry for nearly a year. We will continue to knock on doors and make appeals for additional support. We have only just begun. So, What do we want now? We have just three (3) requests and none of them involve you donating anything to Mercy's Shore. We are completely dependent on God to sustain us. Here is what we need from you. PRAYER! Specifically:
